FLY FISHING CALIFORNIA
What makes fly fishing California such a good place to fly fish is the variety of fishing available. The northern half has the Sacramento River and McCloud River among many others making it stronger fly-fishing than the southern half of the state. There are numerous places to river fish for trout in the state, deciding where to go may be the hard part.

If the river doesn’t have big fish it seems like it has plenty. The scenery can be amazing, surrounded by ranch land and mountains. You may even find women fly-fishing in bikini's if you are lucky. Many of the rivers are open year round, but like anywhere else weather usually will dictate the fishing conditions.
This Golden state has many great fly-fishing opportunities. If you had a week or a month to spare you may just find yourself hooked on this great states fly-fishing. If you are a new fly fisher in the area be sure to hook up with a local fly shop for help and advice.

McCLOUD RIVER
The McCloud River is located near beautiful Lake Shasta. Lake Shasta flows into McCloud River and with it brings massive Brown Trout. Although there are many large Brown Trout, 8 lbs or more, there are still more Rainbow Trout in this catch and release stream.

LOWER SACRAMENTO RIVER
The Lower Sacramento River begins near Redding California, and it is the collection of all the rivers upstream to Shasta Lake. The 25-mile stretch of river is some of the most productive rivers in the west.

HAT CREEK
Hat Creek is located about an hour from Redding, near a town called Burney. The water is extremely clear and it will take your best efforts to catch the trout in this creek that average 12” in length.
Hat Creek is a great mountain stream.
FALL RIVER
The Fall River is considered to be the best spring creek in the state. The river is located at Fall River Mills where it enters the Pit River. Fall River is best floated and there is great access at the boat ramp located on Island Road. The Fall River contains some healthy wild Rainbow Trout that feed on the impressive hatches, and fish can be over 20”.

HOT CREEK
Hot Creek is located near Mammoth California and the fly-fishing begins just below the Hot Creek Hatchery where Mammoth Creek joins Hot Creek. Hot Creek is said to have one of the highest fish counts per mile in America, estimated at 8,000 or more per mile.
